Version 3 of Sentient Trader takes a different approach to the generation of trades and for users upgrading from Version 2 this often means that it appears that Version 3 is "not producing any trades".
Version 3 has improved trading functionality compared with Version 2, but the system can be configured to generate trades like Version 2. Firstly, we recommend that you understand why Version 3 is different to Version 2 and then you can choose how you would like to trade with Sentient Trader in the future.
The different approach to trade generation in Version 3
Version 3 of Sentient Trader finds and presents for your consideration trading opportunities. The type of trading opportunity that it presents to you depends on the setting which you specify under the Trading menu >Trade Opportunities > either All Hurst levels, Selected Hurst levels, Selected Sentient levels or None. Note that selected Sentient levels are only visible if you have the Tools>Options>General>Show Advanced Features option ticked On.
Here is an explanation of the different trade opportunities that can be produced:
All Hurst levels: with this option Sentient Trader will present to you all FLD and VTL levels which could be used as entry or exit levels for your trading cycle. This is the default value.
Selected Hurst levels: with this option Sentient Trader will present to you four possible entry and exit levels for your trading cycle:
Selected Sentient levels: with this option Sentient Trader will present to you four possible entry and exit levels for your trading cycle, as determined by the Sentient Trading Matrix that you have applied to the chart:
Auto-selecting trading opportunities
Once trading opportunities are found by Sentient Trader they are displayed on your charts as trading opportunities, but it is also possible to have Sentient Trader automatically select trading opportunities which means that the most aggressive (closest to price) trading opportunity is automatically converted into a trade, in other words a trade order is generated automatically (there is no need to use the Click-To-Trade menu to generate the trade order). While this is convenient, please note that it is not recommended because all trading opportunities should be considered in the light of their own merits, and blindly converting all trading opportunities into trade orders is not considered to be a sensible approach.
How is this different to the trade generation in version2?
In version 2 of Sentient Trader trading opportunites were identified "behind the scenes" and then converted automatically into trade orders which were presented for consideration in the trade order window. This meant that the selection of trading opportunities was largely a "closed" process, in that the user would not always understand why the trading opportunity had been selected.
Version 3 addresses this issue and has a greatly refined process which exposes the trading opportunities to the user for consideration, rather than generating trade orders that were not always clearly understood.
Version 3 of Sentient Trader represents an important step forward in that it supports more informed discretionary trading decisions, which result in better and more profitable trading.
It is very important to consider this when deciding how you will upgrade your Version 2 workspaces.
How can I have Version 3 produce trades in the same way that Version 2 did?
Version 3 will produce trades exactly the same way that Version 2 did if you change the Trade Opportunities process for your charts.
If you used the Sentient trading methodology in Version 2 then you should do this:
If you used the Hurst trading methodology in version 2 then you should do this:
How can I do this to ALL my charts?
When your workspaces (and charts) are upgraded from Version 2 they are not automatically assigned auto-select functionality because we strongly recommend that you embrace the new improved method of trade generation explained above, but if you would like to continue using Sentient Trader in the way you did with Version 2 then you can easily achieve that by following this process for each of your workspace files:
Please consider carefully whether you want to do this. The new method of trade generation in Sentient Trader was developed in response to the way in which the most successful Sentient Trader users were working with the software.
We encourage you to work in the way which is likely to bring you the greatest trading success.
