Mogliano, Italy – where Sentient Trader is based
The Sentient Approach to trading financial markets was developed by David Hickson, a South African writer and filmmaker who has been trading financial markets for almost 30 years.
David spent many years struggling to find an approach that produced consistent profits in his trading. The turning point came with his discovery of JM Hurst’s work, published in the 1970s, about the way in which cycles influence financial markets.
David started performing the analysis process taught by Hurst using the old-fashioned pencil-and-printed-chart approach. He found that the insight provided by the analysis resulted in a dramatic improvement in his trading results. Looking around for software that could speed up the lengthy analysis process, and finding none, he set about creating his own. It was a project that he expected to take a few months but took many years. The result – Sentient Trader – is now the premier application used by Hurst Cycles analysts and traders around the world.
Sentient Trader has been available since 2010, and in the years that have followed the Hurst Cycles Online service has been introduced (under the name Hurst Signals), and a suite of indicators that perform an expert Hurst cycles analysis on the MT4 trading platform has been available since 2016.
Despite having created the world’s leading Hurst Cycles software, David has long been of the opinion that it is “not about the software”. He often says that the most rewarding aspect of having developed Sentient Trader software has been the opportunity to meet and learn from some of the world’s most successful traders. The idea of the Sentient Approach was born from their combined experience. It is based on an understanding of the way financial markets really work, inspired by the pooled experience and knowledge of the consistently profitable traders that it has been David’s honour to work with and provide software to.
David lives with his family in the Marche region of Italy, where Sentient Trader has had its offices since 2010. Other members of the Sentient Trader team live in Mogliano, and around the world!
